Balanced Kaizen. Creating Change without Destroying People

128. Are you a Visionary?

128. Are you a Visionary?

Visionary leadership is not confined to the adventurous, courageous, innovative & extroverted types we think of like Steve Jobs or Elon Musk.

Those are just the famous ones.

Every “visionary” communicates a message.

So can you.

The message might be world changing or small and mundane but it needs to be clear, simple & consistent to get into the heads of teams who deliver the objective.

I can be inspired to dig a neat, safe hole for building foundations, as much as I can be inspired to fly to the moon.

It takes visionary leaders to dig holes too.

Not because it’s big, or famous.

If you’re the opposite – your message is muddy, long, complex and erratic, cause confusion and slow teams down. Vision is lost.

Setting priorities is one of the most important things a leader does. Deciding, with or on behalf of the team what’s most important and what’s not.

Confusion is a natural state. Focusing is hard, it takes energy.

The built world didn’t evolve it was built.

Leaders aren’t paid to do what comes naturally, otherwise why have leaders??

Averting confusion is your job

“…it takes visionary leaders to dig holes too…”

Have you decided what your mission is?

Have you started to do things to get there?

Have you set priorities?

Do you stick to them?

Does your team know what they are?

Do they know when something they do fits into those priorities?

Do you consciously and frequently remind your team how their priorities, in action, help achieve the mission?

Does your team share your mission?

Is your message clear, simple and consistent?

Are you a visionary?

I might be wrong, but at least I’ve thought about it…”
