Balanced Kaizen. Creating Change without Destroying People

Week 1. What’s your New Year Resolution?

Week 1. What’s your New Year Resolution?

A sports club I know hires extra gym equipment before every new year to cope with the rush of new year’s “get fit” resolutions. That same equipment is de-hired just 2 weeks later when most of those new fitness routines stop.

Taking the fresh start of a New Year to make a resolution isn’t the wrong thing to do. Thinking deeply, or better still – fishing out those deep wishes you’ve long had – is a key element of changing yourself.

There are almost no important changes that happen just by thinking about what you want to be, or where you want to go to. But there are none that succeed without that thinking.

Your subconscious mind needs to know, not just your conscious “thinking” mind.

Your subconscious always has an opinion actually. And it drives your behaviour. In our busy lives we often don’t get time to ask what it is. Or admit what it is if it doesn’t match our self-image.

If you do just one thing in the first week of the year, try to reflect on where you want to be, or who you want to be in the coming year.

Don’t rush to “do” something. The doing will come once the idea is set.

If it’s not clear this week try again when you get time. Every Monday is the first day of the working week – a new beginning. Actually, every day is an opportunity for a new beginning.

You probably know already, and just need time to bring it out.

“…fishing out those deep wishes you’ve long had is a key element of changing yourself…”

What’s bugging you about where you are or who you are? Maybe something you’re not proud of?

Who, or where do you want to be?

What’s in you that’s stopping you from getting there, or being that person?

What about your family, and your team? It’s not just about you. It does start with you though.

You don’t have to start working out yet. That will come if you work it out first.

What’s your New Year Resolution?
