Balanced Kaizen. Creating Change without Destroying People

23. Passion

23. Passion

Passion = Energy, Drive, Excitement, Courage, Boldness, Speed, Agility

“Passion” (together with it’s many synonyms) is the most popular Corporate Value.
“Entrepreneurship”, “drive” and “decisiveness” are vital success factors according to the leadership industry..

Vital but not sufficient.

Energy has to be directed to be useful.

If your organization has Passion or similar as a value your opportunity and responsibility as a leader is to define how and where that energy should be directed. How it should be balanced.

Values are not a panacea for life’s problems, they’re are like ingredients in a soup – each one on its own is usually unpalatable but in balance together they create the perfect flavor. Too much sugar or salt is not good.

Passion and energy can either accelerate or shut down one important element of success – that is trial and error.

Good leaders celebrate Passion that solves problems and leads to long term progress, not just high fives and short term victories.

Good leaders encourage enthusiasm for small changes, even failures, rather than smothering them or only recognizing big wins.

“Energy has to be directed to be useful…”

Good leaders are enthusiastic about people taking chances not just winners.

Good leaders know that it is energy and passion that gets results by overcoming failures.

Celebrating crossing the line is easy and really just an emotional reaction.

If Passion is really a Value it’s what picks you up when you fall over in the back straight.
It’s how Leaders turn Knowledge into Action.

Passion is what turns Knowledge into Action
